In Year 6, the National Curriculum expects children to write confidently and effectively for a range of purposes and audiences. They should be able to organise ideas clearly, use a wide and appropriate vocabulary, and vary sentence structures to create impact. Writing should be mostly accurate in spelling, grammar and punctuation, with correct use of features such as tense, paragraphs and punctuation to clarify meaning. Pupils are expected to plan, draft, edit and improve their work independently, showing control, cohesion and increasing sophistication as they prepare for secondary school.

Reading for Pleasure
Here at Birchills we are an advocate for Reading for Pleasure and encourage children to choose a book and enjoy reading it. Reading for pleasure can lower stress levels, increase empathy and improve academic success. We ask that you encourage your child to read at home and create a love for reading.
