Safeguarding at Birchills Church of England Community Academy
Proverbs 31:8–9 “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
At Birchills, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do.
We believe that every child is a precious individual, created in God’s image, and deserves to feel safe, valued and heard.
The welfare of our children is paramount – we are a child-centred academy family.
All staff, LAC members, volunteers and visitors share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child. We act swiftly on any concerns, believing firmly that “it could happen here.”
We are committed to creating a nurturing and secure environment where children can flourish — academically, socially, and spiritually. Our safeguarding approach ensures that we:
-
Develop a culture of vigilance – where everyone takes responsibility for keeping children safe.
-
Build resilience – by teaching our pupils the language, confidence and skills they need to protect themselves and others.
-
Create a safe and respectful environment – where children are encouraged to speak up, know they will be listened to, and can thrive within an ethos of openness and care.
-
Support our most vulnerable pupils – by working compassionately and effectively with families and external agencies to ensure the right help is given at the right time.
-
Ensure safe recruitment – by carefully checking the suitability of staff and volunteers and maintaining ongoing vigilance thereafter.
Together, we strive to ensure that every child grows up in a community rooted in respect, friendship, forgiveness, perseverance, service and justice — our core Christian values that guide us each day.
